painted chest of drawers
The chest of drawers can be dated to the middle of the 19th century and comes from the Salzkammergut region. The initials, floral wreath and the burning heart as a symbol of love, as well as the overall quality of the chest of drawers indicate that it was a piece of furniture for a bride. The lockable top with the compartment and drawers underneath, provides a writing surface, which is painted with veneer painting on the outside and has the wedding symbols in the center field. The front of the top is decorated with the carving motif of the “running dog”. This is a term from the history of art for the designation of overturning waves. The three drawers may have been painted in this manner somewhat later. An interesting chest of drawers, which poses riddles, the course of which, unfortunately, we can not reconstruct.
