bird cabinet from Gmunden

The birds cabinet has splendid muted colors and is rich in motifs – a total work of art. The cabinet is modeled on a bird cabinet from the workshop of Eleonore Fettinger (1813-1890) near Gmunden (Upper Austria). Tulips and birds are the main motifs and the brushstrokes are finely applied. The egg-and-dart rods and the curved corner bevels as well as the cambered panels are striking. To quote Franz Lipp: “All in all, the Fettinger furniture radiates an irresistible optimism.”
