painted folk art cabinet – a sensation!

This painted folk art cabinet is a true rarity! It deserves to be featured in a folk art museum or published in specialized literature. Rarity combined with originality set this farmhouse cabinet apart. The year of its creation, 1794, is inscribed in the lower panel. The delicate floral motifs around the wooden knobs of the drawers, in the panels, and to the right of the door lend the cabinet a sense of lightness despite its size. The enchanting painted frames around the drawers and panels also contribute to this effect. The drawers, which are edged with wooden strips, are even numbered. The asymmetry of this painted bread cabinet is noteworthy. Notice the different edges of the cabinet. On the right, there is a diagonal pilaster whose front edge is accentuated by a painted decorative line. On the left, a classic corner design was chosen. The veneer painting, with its light base tone, is key to the cheerful character of this farmhouse cabinet. Structurally, the Almer is a side-panel cabinet. The lock, key, and hinges complete the piece. A truly outstanding piece of folk art!
