This farmhouse chest from Styria is made of spruce wood and has a warm honey-colored patina. It is simple and beautiful. The decoration on the farmhouse chest is limited to the front. The three arched panels consist of flat semicircular arches that end in pilasters. What makes this farmer’s chest stand out from others of its kind? The flat semicircular decoration also encloses spandrels and is made in one piece. Then I would like to go into more detail about the pilasters: on the one hand, there are the cornices, and on the other hand, the scaled shafts, which are also conical in shape. One might think that these are insignificant details. No, that is not the case. It is precisely these subtleties that make one piece of furniture more beautiful/higher quality than another.
